YouTuber Ember Paradox has hit out at the platform after the platform’s AI moderation took a reaction video down for “child safety” but left the original video up.

On Wednesday, December 10, the YouTuber shared that their video reacting to Brandon Herrera’s ‘Darwin Awards’ video was removed for not following the site’s “child safety policy.”

“Can someone at YouTube explain how a video I reacted to is still up and fully accessible (and rightly so because there’s nothing wrong with it), and yet my video gets taken down, even after I’d actually edited out some parts before posting, and I get a strike for it,” they asked.

“Just what the hell is going on?!? Can I please get a HUMAN to look at this for once?”

Herrera responded, saying that there was nothing in his original video that broke YouTube’s policies.

“Yeah, there’s nothing in the video that should be getting your video removed, otherwise I wouldn’t have posted it,” he said. “That being said, most videos in that series are demonetized/age-restricted by YouTube almost instantly.”

YouTube responds, denies appeal

Shortly after Paradox’s tweet went viral, the Team YouTube account responded and asked the YouTuber to wait for her appeal to be reviewed.

However, after it was denied, the company replied: “We’re taking a closer look into this right now and will share an update once we have more details. Thanks for your patience while we investigate!”

They’re not the first creator to hit out at YouTube’s alleged AI moderation errors, either.

Tech YouTuber Enderman saw multiple channels with hundreds of thousands of subscribers removed overnight, while another creator was banned over a comment they made at just 13 years old.

On December 10, SpooknJukes put YouTube on blast for restricting his latest Dead by Daylight video because a clip of him laughing was deemed “graphic content.”
