Former Overwatch pro turned streamer xQc has reignited the eternal “hardest game” debate, pushing back after Jynxzi claimed Rocket League has the highest skill gap of any video game.
The discussion kicked off on stream when Jynxzi argued that Rocket League stands alone at the top when it comes to raw difficulty.
“Rocket League is probably undeniably the highest skill game in my entire life,” Jynxzi said. “I cannot name a singular video game that requires more skill than Rocket League.”
That statement quickly drew a response from xQc, who didn’t hesitate to throw Overwatch into the ring.
“Overwatch,” xQc fired back. “You need to adjust in real time, while strategizing, and communicating. By far the most complex aiming style. It’s by far the hardest.”
Rocket League caster fires back
The debate escalated when professional Rocket League caster Stumpy weighed in on X, strongly disagreeing with xQc’s take.
“You’re completely ignorant and/or uninformed if you think OVERWATCH has a higher skill gap than Rocket League. It’s not even the highest skill FPS game,” Stumpy wrote. “Put 7 amateurs against 1 pro in OW and the pro WILL lose. A RETIRED pro beat 7 amateurs in RL. It’s not even close.”
xQc wasn’t convinced, clapping back by questioning the logic behind measuring difficulty through lopsided matchups.
“Imagine quantifying the difficulty of your game by how many people a pro can beat,” he responded. “Jynxzi scored a goal against a ‘pro’ in 12 tries. Rocket League is hard because it has a non-transferable skill set, FPS are harder because people been training their whole life.”
Stumpy followed up by clarifying his stance, agreeing that 1v7 examples aren’t the only way to judge difficulty, but doubling down on Rocket League’s depth.
“I agree that it’s not the ONLY measure,” he said. “RL is harder not only because of the non-transferable skillset but because there’s game-changing mechanics that people with 5,000 hours can’t do consistently that aren’t present in OW.”
