A woman has gone viral on TikTok after booking a driverless taxi for her daughter, only to find a man mysteriously ‘trapped’ in the trunk.
Driverless taxis have started becoming increasingly popular across the United States. The likes of Waymo, Amazon’s Zoox, and Tesla’s RoboTaxis have become visible in a number of different states. Waymo has been the most successful of the lot, with cars across the West Coast and East Coast, with further expansion still to come.
However, there have been a number of issues with the driverless vehicles. They have been known to violate road traffic laws, leaving police baffled when they pull them over, and some have dropped customers off in the middle of traffic.
Yet, a woman has gone viral after experiencing a different problem with them – finding a man trapped in the trunk.
Woman finds man ‘stuck’ in back of Waymo
The woman, TikToker LuckyThurman, had ordered a car for her daughter, only to find a man peering from behind the passenger seats in the back.
“Why the f*ck are you in the trunk?” she asked in her video that has since racked up over four and a half million views.
“I’m trying to figure this out,” he replied. “This s*it wouldn’t let me out. They just put me in here, the people. That’s what I’m saying.”
Trapped man spoken to by police over Waymo incident
The TikToker followed it up with a second video, proving that it wasn’t fake or a skit. In that, she showed the mystery man being detained by police as they questioned him.
LuckyThurman revealed that the man was ultimately let go by police. She also received a credit from Waymo because of the situation, and a new car was ordered for her trip.
A number of viewers questioned just how the man had managed to get in the trunk unnoticed.
“29 cameras inside and outside of the car but they t didn’t notice somebody hop in the trunk?!” one commented. “Glad you called the cops, this is so scary,” another said. “I think he’s just as scared as you lmao,” another added.
