A Nigerian woman has added another title to her name after setting a new Guinness World Record with a wig taller than a three-storey building.

Helen Williams, a professional wig maker, has officially created the tallest wig ever recorded, with the towering hairpiece measuring 15.37 meters or 50.42 feet from the top of her head.

The achievement completes a hat trick of wig-related world records for Williams, who already holds titles for the world’s longest handmade wig and the widest wig ever made.

Record-breaking wig stands over 50 feet tall

According to Guinness World Records, Williams’ latest creation stands higher than the building she posed beside during the attempt and is even taller than the Hollywood sign is wide.

Williams previously set the record for the world’s longest handmade wig at 351.28 meters or 1,152 feet, along with the widest wig at 3.65 meters or nearly 12 feet.

“I don’t think I’ll ever stop breaking records,” Williams said. “To have a record is like climbing a mountain. The climb is hard and full of challenges, but the view from the top is incredible.”

She added that breaking another record reinforced her belief that nothing is impossible.

Months of work and a failed test run

Williams said the tallest wig was the most difficult project she has attempted so far, despite her experience as a professional wig maker.

Before the official attempt, she completed a test version that ultimately failed, forcing her back to the drawing board.

Giant Wig

“Making the wig stand was going to be very difficult, but I went back and started designing again,” she explained. “Finally, I was able to figure out how to go about it, and I started my official attempt months later and everything went well.”

The record-breaking wig was made using 250 bundles of string hair and cost more than 3 million Nigerian naira, which is roughly £1,551 or $2,066.
