A massive sinkhole suddenly opened up at a subway construction site in Shanghai, swallowing part of a busy roadway and forcing authorities to shut multiple streets as emergency crews rushed to contain the damage.
According to a report from Stheadline, the collapse happened on February 11 along Qixin Road in Minhang District after a leak occurred during metro construction.
Traffic was immediately halted across several nearby routes, including sections of Qixin Road between as crews secured the area and activated an emergency response plan. Authorities said no injuries were reported.

The report states the leak originated within Section 18 of the Jia-Min Line project, which is being constructed by China Railway Tunnel Group. The site will remain closed until emergency repairs are completed.
Videos circulating online show a wide stretch of road rapidly sinking into the ground while workers run to safety. A temporary workstation near the construction zone was also pulled into the pit as the sinkhole got larger.
The debris also destroyed an underground pipe, with footage showing water spraying out of the burst network and flooding the crater.
Stheadline reported that the surrounding area experienced a separate road collapse in August 2023 during earlier subway works. Officials have not reported any secondary disasters linked to the latest incident, and the exact cause remains under investigation.
