Former Reddit moderator Stale2000, otherwise known as Bryan Wade, is on a quest for answers from the US Government after they called in bosses of Twitch, Reddit, and other social media websites.
Back in January, Stale2000 went viral online after he was removed from his position as a moderator on the LivestreamFails subreddit. Wade had helped promote a reality show called Million Dollar Fan, which was supposed to involve a number of top streamers, including ExtraEmily and Esfand.
In the wake of his removal, Stale2000 said that: “Reddit moderators should be treated like celebrities or influencers. Not because they deserve respect, but because they actually have real power and influence.”
He also suggested that moderators should have “qualifications” to wield the moderation powers.
Stale2000 wants US government to release Twitch & Reddit files
Now, the former LSF mod is calling on Congress to release the files from Discord, Reddit, Steam, and Twitch’s appearance with the House Oversight Committee over online radicalization.
Wade has called for three consecutive days, speaking to different officials about the files. “It was not a public hearing, but they were transcribed interviews and these are supposedly to be eventually released. I think they just forgot,” he said in one phone call.
“We’ll see how this goes. I think I might actually be able to get these things released.”
As noted, Wade has been unable to get the files released so far, but has followed up for three consecutive days with calls.
In his third call, he was told that the committee are “aware” of his request and are working on it. “Somebody knows what they’re doing,” the ex-mod said.
Bosses from Discord, Reddit, Steam, and Twitch were called into Congress for questioning about online radicalization in November.
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy stated that he wasn’t “worried about it,” stating that the government “probably don’t know that much about Twitch,” and would just be seeking general information about the platform.
