TikTok has quietly launched a new stand-alone app called PineDrama, expanding its push into short-form storytelling outside of its main platform. The app is currently available in the United States and Brazil on iOS and Android.
PineDrama focuses entirely on microdramas, which are fictional series told through one-minute episodes designed for vertical viewing. Each video functions as a short episode in an ongoing story, rather than a standalone clip.
The app is free to download and use and is currently ad-free, though monetization could be introduced later.
What PineDrama offers
PineDrama allows users to browse content through a Discover tab, where dramas can be filtered by All or Trending, or through an endless vertical feed personalized to viewing behavior. The platform includes multiple genres such as thriller, romance, and family-focused stories, with popular titles including “Love at First Bite” and “The Officer Fell for Me.”
The app also includes features common to streaming platforms, including Watch History and Favorites sections that let users return to or save series they are following. Viewers can leave comments on episodes and switch to a full-screen viewing mode that removes captions and sidebars for a cleaner experience.
The launch follows TikTok’s addition of a TikTok Minis section inside its main app late last year, which introduced microdramas to its existing user base. With PineDrama, TikTok is now directly competing with established microdrama platforms like ReelShort and DramaBox.
Microdramas have grown rapidly in recent years and are projected to generate $26 billion in annual revenue by 2030, according to Variety. The format contrasts with earlier short-form streaming efforts such as Quibi, the high-budget platform launched in 2020 by Jeffrey Katzenberg that shut down after six months.
