A ticket examiner for a Scottish railway company has officially adopted a kitten she rescued after it was abandoned on a train in January.
The kitten was discovered by a Scotrail employee named Marie Fox, who found the tiny feline all alone in a blue-and-grey pet carrier during one of her morning shifts on Thursday, January 8.
The cat, a brown-and-white female tabby around six months old, had been seemingly abandoned by its owner on the 8:25 Scotrail train from Helensburgh to Edinburgh, Scotland.
Fox cared for the kitten, which was affectionately named ‘Annie’ after the musical, until she and other staff relinquished it into the care of the Glasgow branch of ‘Cats Protection,’ a cat rescue group.
Daisy, originally named ‘Annie,’ was left aboard a ScotRail train in the morning of Thursday, January 8.

Little orphan Annie was fostered by the organization until Fox officially adopted her in mid-February, changing her name to ‘Daisy.’
“We’ve renamed her Daisy because it feels like a fresh start,” she told local news outlets. “I lost my own cat last August, so adopting Daisy feels like perfect timing. She’s already brought so much joy into our house, and I’m looking forward to watching her grow and thrive.”
ScotRailDaisy was officially adopted by ScotRail ticket examiner Marie Fox a month after the kitten was discovered on the train where she worked.
Fox admitted that she “never imagined” Daisy would end up coming home with her after discovering her that day on the train.
“Seeing how small and vulnerable she was that morning really stayed with me, so to now be able to give her a safe and loving home feels incredibly special. I’m so grateful to Cats Protection for the care they’ve given her and to everyone who supported Annie’s story.”
Cats Protection’s Glasgow branch coordinator, Elaine Brennan, claimed that the JustGiving they’d made to raise funds for Daisy’s care quickly blew past its goal and reached £5,000 ($6,750 USD).
“We had so many offers to rehome Annie, but we truly believe we’ve found the perfect home with Marie,” Brennan said. “…We can’t wait to see her thrive with Marie and her family.”
Scotrail also commented on the situation in a lighthearted post on X, where they praised Fox for taking in “wee Daisy” after being “abandoned on a ScotRail seat” last month.
