Streaming star Mike ‘shroud’ Grzesiek believes Mixer came “too soon” and would have been a power in the streaming world had it launched now.

Over the years, there have been a number of challengers to Twitch’s standing as the top dog in the streaming world that have fallen by the wayside. That includes Mixer, which was previously owned by Microsoft.

The platform made a splash back in 2019, signing both Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins and Shroud to massive contracts to get them off Twitch. However, the pair didn’t last long on Mixer, with the platform allowing them to return to Twitch in 2021 as it shut down.

Both streamers have reflected on their time with Mixer over the years, suggesting things they could have done better. Now with other platforms, such as Kick, doing similar to Mixer and offering big money, shroud has brought it up again.

Shroud says Mixer came “too early” in streaming game

The former Counter-Strike pro believes the platform was a little too ahead of the game and would have been successful had it launched in the current day with a few slight changes.

“Mixer came too early, man, I’m telling you. If Microsoft did Mixer now, it would be hot s*it and not in a bad way,” he said, noting that it wouldn’t have to pay people like Kick had done.

“The only way to make a streaming platform work is you do what Kick does and pay everybody a bunch of money, or you provide insane incentives. So like, Mixer could have worked with game studios and all of the companies they own to make bad ass s*it happen. It just came too early.”

The Twitch star added that he “wasn’t complaining” as he still got paid despite the platform shutting down, but believed it jumped the gun by launching when it did.

As noted, a number of rival platforms have cut into Twitch’s market share these days, with Kick and YouTube leading the way.
