Twitch star Mike ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek has sworn off playing Hytale for at least two years, saying it’ll be ‘unplayable’ until then.
Hytale was first announced all the way back in 2015, when the creators of the popular Minecraft server Hypxel wanted to do it themselves.
The game, which was picked up by Riot Games and even canceled by them at one point, has undergone a tonne of delays but finally released into Early Access on January 14, 2026. Since then, it has shot to become one of the most-watched games on Twitch.
Naturally, a lot of variety streamers have been dipping their toe in, giving the long-awaited game a chance. However, Shroud is going to wait a little while before he finally gets stuck into things.
Shroud will wait to play Hytale
The former Counter-Strike professional, who has mainly played ARC Raiders over the last few months, was asked by a fan as to whether or not he’d be playing Hytale any time soon.
“Are you going to play Hytale? F*ck no,” he quickly replied.
“In like two years, maybe. I think it’s got a cool foundation, but there’s no way that game is in a playable state right now.”
As noted, Hytale is only in its early access period, meaning there are going to be plenty of hiccups in the early going. That’s been evident by some players running into crashes while exploring.
The developers have offered more than $25,000 in bounties for anyone who uncovers serious bugs and exploits within the game.
“Our program offers payouts of over $25k+ depending on severity, with solid rewards for auth and client/server exploits,” they said, acknowledging that things will be “bumpy” in the early days.
“It’s only been two months since we reacquired Hytale – and that’s how long we’ve had to prepare the game and rebuild the team from the ground up,” they explained.
