Finnegan the Fox, the animal best known for appearing in the Save A Fox charity’s YouTube videos alongside founder Mikayla Raines, and for providing sounds for Overwatch 2, has died, with the news confirmed publicly on January 30.
The confirmation came in a Save A Fox YouTube video shared by Raines’ widower, Ethan Frankamp, who explained that Finnegan had died around two months earlier.
In a comment pinned under the video, he said the delay in sharing the news was due to the difficulty of processing multiple personal losses.
Save A Fox confirms Finnegan’s passing
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Finnegan Fox,” he wrote. “First I want to apologize for taking so long to make the announcement, Finnegan passed about two months ago.”
He added that dealing with the loss of his wife, Mikayla Raines, alongside the death of Finnegan, had made editing the video “impossibly hard.”
Raines, who founded the charity in 2017, died in 2025.
Finnegan was widely recognised by viewers of the Save A Fox channel, where he regularly appeared in videos focused on animal rescue and care. He’s also credited with providing the vocal sounds used for Kiriko’s kitsune spirit in Overwatch 2.
In the same comment, Raines’ husband said the family had incurred significant medical expenses while caring for Finnegan and invited viewers who were willing or able to donate to help cover those costs. He also stated that all of Finnegan’s sponsors would be offered refunds for the previous two months.
The statement concluded with a message of thanks to supporters for their understanding and continued support.
