The owner of a Chinese restaurant in Mexico has gone viral after hitting back at a “self-entitled” customer who left a less-than-positive review.

With the way the internet is now, restaurants and food joints are constantly being reviewed from different angles. TikTok food reviewers are always uploading new content, it’s easy to post on X and Instagram about the food you’re eating, and then you have things like Google reviews.

Well, in the case of Wang Tulum, a Chinese restaurant in Tulum, Mexico, they had one dissatisfied customer, Anvita Kotha, leave a three–star Google Review which even took a swipe at their dishes for not being spicy enough.

“We ordered the dan dan noodles and the dumplings in chili oil,” Kotha said. ‘Frankly, it wasn’t spicy and not our cup of tea. I wouldn’t say that it’s bad food, but it also wasn’t spicy despite getting extra chili oil and even adding salt.”

The review, which has been shared online by a variety of people, clearly struck a nerve with the restaurant owner, as they fired back with a reply of their own.

“I didn’t know we had to have a requirement that our chilli oil needed to be spicy? Oh Anvita is coming let’s cater to her because she’s some Google guide!!!,” they said. “Sorry, how about have some respect that restaurants are allowed and should only cater to the owners needs, not just the customers.

“We didn’t wake up and think of lets cater our dishes to these self-entitled people… open your own damn restaurant… Think before you review and realize no business is responsible to cater to Anvita. How about open your own restaurant and will see what your food taste like.”

Since the response, Wang Tulum’s social media channels have had numerous replies from people poking fun at the situation. “Chili oil wasn’t spicy,” one joker said.

“Every dish has a choice of no spicy, except dumplings in red chili oil,” the restaurant responded to another.
