Polymarket has announced plans to open what it says will be New York City’s first free grocery store, alongside a $1 million donation to Food Bank For NYC.

The prediction market platform revealed the project on February 3 through a series of posts on X, confirming that it has signed a lease for a physical storefront called “The Polymarket” and will allow visitors to take groceries without making a purchase.

The company said the store is part of a broader effort to address food insecurity in the city, while directing attention toward Food Bank For NYC ahead of the opening.

Polymarket confirms February opening date for free grocery store

“After months of planning, we’re excited to announce ‘The Polymarket’ is coming to New York City,” the company wrote. “New York’s first free grocery store. We signed the lease. And we donated $1 million to Food Bank For NYC — an organization that changes how our city responds to hunger.”

In a separate post, Polymarket added, “As a part of our mission of giving back to the city we call home, we’ve donated $1 million to @FoodBank4NYC to help fight food insecurity across all five boroughs.”

“The Polymarket is fully stocked. No purchase required,” another message read. “We’re open to all New Yorkers. A real, physical investment in our community. The Polymarket’s grand opening is on February 12th @ noon ET.”

Polymarket later summarized the initiative in a final post, writing, “Free groceries. Free markets. Built for the people who power New York. We’ll see you at The Polymarket’s grand opening next week. We love you, New York City.”

Polymarket has also not announced how long the store will operate or where in the city it will be located beyond confirming that the lease has been signed.
