Southwest Airlines passengers were jokingly ‘held hostage’ as a wedding ceremony took place in the middle of a flight.
Unless you can afford an upgrade, flying isn’t always the most enjoyable experience. Sometimes, you just want to sit down, watch a movie or two, then get some sleep. But as we’ve all seen, plenty of bizarre circumstances can interfere with those plans.
Whether it’s someone screaming that a person over there is “not real,” or a proposal gathering the entire economy section together, plenty of wild moments in the air have gone viral. And now, we have a whole wedding ceremony. No, really.
A couple became newlyweds while tens of thousands of feet off the ground. Luckily for everyone else onboard, they were all ‘invited’ to the wedding ceremony mid-flight.

Bride & groom married mid-way through Southwest Airlines flight
TikToker ‘katrinabadowski’ shared her experience on a Southwest flight to start the new year. What she witnessed isn’t something you’d see every day, as she was given a front-row seat to a full-blown wedding ceremony in the sky.
Before the special moment came together, a flight attendant alerted passengers to the situation, asking if everyone could “please remain seated as a courtesy to the bridge and groom.”
If passengers had to use the bathroom during the ceremony, they were asked to head to the back of the plane so as not to disturb the proceedings.
“Southwest is known as the love airline, and today, love is in the air. All of you are invited to the wedding,” they said.
After the bride walked down a literal plane aisle to meet her partner, they turned and thanked their ‘newfound friends’ for attending the wedding. In a matter of minutes, the ceremony drew to a close, an officiant finished their vows, and they kissed to make it official.
Together, Tina and Roger became Mr and Mrs. Simpson. The pair high-fived passengers on their way down the flight, presumably back to their seats, but not after throwing a bouquet of flowers and handing around a guest book for fellow flyers to sign.
That’s not all though, as a bit of a celebration was held at the airport once they landed. They were even driven through the airport in a cart with some plastic cups attached behind it to signify the big moment.

Naturally, the in-flight wedding turned heads across social media, drawing millions of views on TikTok alone, with one user calling it “one of the craziest uses of free will” they’ve ever seen.
“I’ve never seen a wedding hostage situation,” another popular comment chimed in. “Y’all are laughing but would’ve eaten this up in a 2006 romcom,” another user joked.
