OpenAI has announced ChatGPT Health, a new dedicated experience designed to securely combine a user’s health information with ChatGPT’s AI to help people better understand and manage their health.
The company says health and wellness is already one of the most common use cases for ChatGPT, with more than 230 million people globally asking health-related questions each week.
ChatGPT Health builds on that behavior by allowing users to connect medical records and wellness apps so responses can be grounded in personal health data rather than general information.
A dedicated space for health conversations
ChatGPT Health operates as a separate experience within the app, with its own space, memories, and enhanced privacy protections. Health conversations are isolated from regular chats, and information shared in Health does not flow back into non-Health conversations.
OpenAI says the feature is designed to support, not replace, medical care. ChatGPT Health is not intended for diagnosis or treatment. Instead, it aims to help users prepare for appointments, understand lab results, track trends over time, and navigate everyday health and wellness questions.
Users can securely connect medical records and apps such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. With those connections enabled, ChatGPT Health can help summarize recent test results, explain wearable data, suggest diet or workout approaches, and assist with understanding insurance options based on personal healthcare patterns.
Conversations in ChatGPT Health are not used to train OpenAI’s foundation models. Users can view or delete Health memories at any time and disconnect medical records or apps instantly through settings. Multi-factor authentication can also be enabled to add another layer of account protection.

OpenAI says ChatGPT Health was built in close collaboration with physicians worldwide. Over the past two years, more than 260 doctors across 60 countries and dozens of specialties have contributed feedback on health-related model responses, with over 600,000 evaluations shaping how the system communicates and prioritizes safety.
The model powering Health is evaluated using HealthBench, an assessment framework developed with practicing physicians. The framework focuses on clinical quality, clarity, appropriate escalation of care, and safety rather than exam-style accuracy checks.
According to OpenAI, this approach helps ChatGPT Health handle tasks such as explaining lab results in accessible language, helping users prepare questions for appointments, summarizing care instructions, and interpreting wellness data.
ChatGPT Health is launching in a limited rollout, with access initially available to a small group of users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside of the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. OpenAI says access will expand throughout 2026, with plans to make Health available broadly on web and iOS.
