Police in England responding to several calls about an abandoned dog discovered the animal wasn’t a dog at all, but actually a reindeer toy left near the roadside.
Officers were dispatched after multiple reports claimed a “small, bully-type dog” had been tied up at the top of Slack Hill along Chesterfield Road on November 18.
Residents told police the animal appeared to have been sitting alone for most of the day, prompting concerns it had been abandoned.
Officers found a reindeer toy instead of a dog
When the officer reached the location, they found no dog in sight. Instead, a toy reindeer modeled after Sven from Frozen was propped up near the junction. In a Facebook post, the Matlock, Cromford, Wirksworth, and Darley Dale Police SNT said the toy looked like it was taking a break after “a test flight over the Dales area.
The post sparked reactions from locals who had spotted the toy earlier. One resident said they initially thought it was a statue because of how still it appeared. Another said they slowed down, ready to stop, before realizing it wasn’t a real animal.
Others were surprised to learn the toy had been there at all, saying they’d passed the area multiple times without noticing it. Police didn’t say how the reindeer ended up at the roadside, but confirmed there was no abandoned dog involved.
Back in September, Sheriff Deputies in Maine responded to reports of a woman screaming for help… only to find a goat in the pasture making the noise.
