Online star Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson has revealed some of his biggest red flags about successful YouTubers, noting he knows when they’ll drop off.
Over the last few years, MrBeast has risen to the top of YouTube, becoming the channel with the most subscribers ever. Along the way, Donaldson has made plenty of videos with lavish spending, giving away private islands, new cars, and even a private jet.
The YouTube star has repeatedly said that he has “negative money” in his own bank account, and that his Beast Industries has to top up a ‘Jimmy Fund’ for whenever he decides to make a big donation to a charitable cause or help out fans.
Donaldson has said previously that he doesn’t like to splash out on himself, and said that a $150,000 private jet trip to see his fiancée while she was in the UK was his biggest bit of spending. However, it’s something he keeps a keen eye on with other creators.
MrBeast worries for YouTubers who are money-motivated
During his appearance on the Good Guys podcast, MrBeast noted that lavish spending from successful YouTubers is a red flag for him.
“Definitely, if they start buying nice things, I’m like, you’re kinda motivated by the wrong things. If you’re motivated by material things and if your motivation for grinding, uploading, and working really hard is so you can buy a nice car and maybe buy a nice house, you’re not going to be one of the greats because, eventually, you’ll have those things,” he said.
“A lot of people do start to level off because you’ll notice after they get a nice car, house, and buy some jewellery and get a little bit of money, all of a sudden they start uploading way less, they start trying way less, and quality goes down. All of a sudden they are magically less passionate.”

Donaldson said he sees that in “a lot of people,” and while its “not always obvious,” he notices it quite a bit.
He added that not everyone is “doomed” once they’ve peaked as a content because there are plenty of fixable things, it’s just when the receipts for big buys start piling up.
