McDonald’s France is giving customers a cup of gooey, cheesy goodness for the holiday season, along with a slew of other cheese-themed entrees and sides.
Craving a burger du fromage? McDonald’s France has you covered. This December, the fast food chain is focusing on everything cheesy, from burgers to fries and more.
As of December 9, diners in France can go to McDonald’s and order an XXL Cheddar Cup to dip their fries, chicken, or burgers in. This soft cheese dip is reminiscent of American-style nacho cheese that you’d find on concession food at sports games.
The Cheddar Cup is part of a broader cheese-themed menu called ‘Crazy Cheddar‘ or ‘Cheddar Madness,’ which includes two burgers and even special cheese fries.
McDonald’s France is leaning into cheese for the holidays
One of these burgers is the Royal Cheesy Jalapeno Bacon burger, a bacon cheeseburger with spicy jalapenos, while the CBO Extra Cheddar is a cheesier version of a classic staple in McDonald’s France. Short for ‘Chicken, Bacon, Onion,’ it’s a burger with crispy breaded chicken, bacon, fried onions, and cheese, served on a soft bun full of bacon bits.
Fast foodies in the country can also get their hands on McShaker Cheese Fries, which come with a packet of cheesy seasoning that you shake up inside a special bag yourself.
McDonald’s France is kicking their menu up a notch with three cheesy items and a cheese dipping sauce.
Of course, all this wouldn’t be complete without the XXL Cheddar Cup to dip your cheesy burgers in. France is known for its wide selection of cheeses, after all, and it seems like McDonald’s is leaning into this specialty for a limited time.
Diners can try out the Crazy Cheddar menu for themselves until January 12, 2026.
The XXL Cheddar Cup is the part of this seasonal menu that’s striking diners the most, and it’s even going viral on social media outside of France.
Foodies in other English-speaking countries began commenting on this dipping option in droves, wishing they could get a cheesy dipping sauce in their own McDonald’s locations.
“Dear France, you know us better than we know ourselves. – The USA,” one American user joked.
“We need this in the UK,” a British commenter said.
“McDonald’s makes a burger with jalapenos? Please bring that to Canada,” another pleaded.
McDonald’s is known for its regional specialties, boasting unique menu items in different countries. For example, McDonald’s Japan released a special collaboration with Street Fighter earlier this year, complete with ‘hadouken-style’ energy drinks and three different burgers.
Additionally, given some recent scientific findings, it might be worth trying out the Crazy Cheddar menu, as a study in the journal Neurology discovered that people who eat certain types of cheese are less likely to develop dementia.
