A man in Libya has gone viral after a shipment of Nokia phones he ordered back in 2010 arrived in 2026, 16 years later.
Photos and videos shared online showed boxes of classic Nokia phones, still sealed in their original packaging, being opened.
The delivery reportedly dates back to an order placed before Libya’s civil war, which began in 2011 and severely impacted shipping, infrastructure, and international trade.
Why the shipment was delayed
The phones are believed to have been ordered during a period when Libya still had relatively stable commercial shipping routes. As fighting escalated and borders closed, countless imports were delayed, lost, or left in storage indefinitely, including this shipment.
The package’s sender and receiver lived just single-digit kilometres apart in Libya’s capital of Tripoli, according to NDTV.
The delivery resurfaced unexpectedly in 2026, with footage showing the recipient opening boxes and reacting with visible disbelief at finally receiving the long-lost order.
The video has circulated widely on social media, though it does not include captions or an official translation of what is being said. The models appear to be older Nokia handsets, renowned for their durability and long battery life.
While smartphones produced by Apple and Samsung have become ubiquitous since the late noughties, Nokia still produces budget-friendly phones under HMD after the company announced back in 2024, plans to bring back the classic Nokia 3210.
