A man has gone viral after hiring two professional climbing instructors to scale the inside of his own home to retrieve a forgotten passport.

As shown in the Instagram post, the homeowner’s townhouse was mid-renovation and had no stairs installed, leaving the upper floors completely inaccessible.

The problem became urgent when he realized his passport was locked in a safe several floors up, just days before an overseas cruise.

With no other way to reach it, the man turned to Craigslist and posted a job ad asking for professional climbers to help retrieve the document. Fortunately, two climbers answered the call, arriving fully equipped to turn the unfinished house into an indoor climbing route.

Professional climbers save man’s holiday

The man explained how the situation unfolded, revealing the mistake that led to the unusual rescue and nearly cost him his holiday.

“Like an idiot, I forgot my passport before I removed the stairs from my townhouse, so I’m going out of the country for a cruise to Carribean, and obviously, I can’t travel without my passport,” said the man. “My wife is upset, so I had to hire a couple of professional climbing instructors to retrieve the passport a couple of floors up.”

The viral video showed the instructors rigging an anchor at the front stairwell before climbing upward through the interior of the property. To stay secure during the climb, they placed anchor points on radiators and windows as they moved between floors.

When they reached the bedroom, the climber collected the man’s backpack, an overnight bag, an international driver’s license, and even a few dresses belonging to the homeowner’s wife before making the descent.

After the climbers safely returned to the ground floor, the homeowner paid them $150, gave them celebratory shots, and threw in discounted LASIK eye surgery, making it one of the most bizarre climbing expeditions caught on camera.

In the end, it may have been cheaper to just get a new passport, if there was time.
