A Chinese businessman unknowingly dodged death when his MacBook Pro stopped a bullet during a gunpoint robbery in Brazil.
The man, going by Zhang, was finishing work at an event in Sao Paulo on October 1 when he called a taxi to catch a flight home to China.
While waiting, he stepped outside for fresh air, a decision that nearly turned fatal.
Zhang walked to a nearby gas station while on the phone with a client. A black car suddenly pulled up, and a masked man rushed out holding a gun. He grabbed his bag, which contained his passport, wallet, laptop, and files, and sprinted away.
“My backpack had important documents as well as my laptop, so I turned around and fled,” he explained.
The gunman fired twice. Zhang felt nothing and assumed the shots were fake. That wasn’t the case at all, as he would soon discover later that day.
The MacBook Pro absorbed the bullet.

Hours later at the airport, after reporting the theft of his suitcase to police, he discovered a bullet lodged in his laptop during security screening. His MacBook had absorbed the impact, likely saving his life.
Police told Zhang that armed robberies are common in Brazil and the chances of recovering his stolen items were low.
This isn’t the first time everyday items have blocked bullets. Earlier this year, a Pokemon card collector credited an Incineroar deck for stopping a 9mm round fired into their house by an “idiot neighbor.”
And in 2022, a Redditor claimed their Razer headset deflected a stray bullet fired through a window.
