Ludwig Ahgren has raised more than $100,000 for the Trevor Project during a memorial charity stream held in honor of one of his oldest viewers, who recently passed away.
The streamer shared the news across two posts on X, explaining the personal connection and the impact the viewer had on his early career. In his initial announcement on November 13, Ludwig revealed that the viewer, known as Kanabana, began watching when he averaged around 100 viewers.
He said she was a regular presence in his chat, known for being funny and supportive as his channel grew into a full-time streaming career. Ludwig also noted that she was trans, and that his community had been one of the few places where she felt comfortable expressing that.
Ludwig said he planned a charity stream for the Trevor Project in her memory and thanked anyone who tuned in or donated.
Ludwig raises over $100,000
One day later, Ludwig posted a follow-up confirming that the fundraiser had concluded with a total of $104,000 raised for the Trevor Project. He thanked everyone who donated and wrote that he felt “really lucky to have this community,” once again paying tribute to Kanabana.
The charity stream lasted nearly fifteen hours across two days, with Ludwig streaming a variety of games. His initial plan was to add a game to the queue for every $1,000 raised, but that plan was “thrown out the window” as the amount of money soared into the tens of thousands.
On day 2 of the charity broadcast, Ludwig said he never expected to raise the amount of money he did, and thus the plans shifted. Instead of speedrunning 40+ games, Ludwig brought on Super Smash Bros Melee professional Zain and raced him to 100 wins. All the while, his new goal was to raise $100,000 with the promise of bleaching his hair blonde if and when the goal was reached.
The Trevor Project is a nonprofit organization that provides crisis support and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ youth. Ludwig did not share further details about Kanabana’s passing, but his posts quickly spread across social media, with many viewers expressing condolences and praising the decision to turn the moment into meaningful support.
