Kingsman265, the Marvel Rivals streamer who was removed from a $40,000 tournament after asking his teammate to swap heroes, has boomed in popularity in the aftermath of it all.
Back on January 18, Kingsman265 was supposed to take part in a creator-led tournament for Marvel Rivals. However, during some practice games, he asked one of his teammates to swap heroes for better team composition.
That request led to some heated back-and-forth with his teammates, with them telling him to “shut the f*ck up” and ultimately teaming without him. The team was eventually eliminated in the first round, with the streamer watching from the sidelines.
In the fallout of the controversy, Kingsman’s ex-teammates, including captain Cecee, have apologized for their behavior and lost sponsors over it. The team has also been widely mocked on social media, even outside of Marvel Rivals circles.
Kingsmans265 gets over 10,000 new Twitch subs
On top of that, Kingsman265 is finding plenty of success on Twitch. The streamer was finally accepted into the Twitch Partner Program, giving him a sub button on his channel.
As of his January 21 stream, he had pulled in over 10,000 new subscribers, as well as amassing over 110,000 followers. At one point, the streamer had to ask people to stop donating to him after he’d reached the $3000 mark – which is what he would have received for winning the event.
“I’ve already made more than the $3000 that I would have won for first place in the tournament, so stop giving me money,” he said after going live on January 20.
Marvel Rivals devs help Kingsman265 out too
Additionally, the streamer also received a number of in-game credits from the Marvel Rivals developers, just so he could buy skins for Magik.
“Bro, the Marvel Rivals devs just gave me units so I can purchase Magik skins. No fucking way! There is no way that is real! No way, what?!” he said after getting an email.
The streamer did struggle with the influx of new viewers, with his computer needing to be rebooted after less than five hours due to programs lagging.
It remains to be seen if his newfound success will last long-term. But, for now, he’s the biggest name when it comes to Marvel Rivals.
