KFC is taking fast food to the next level with its first-ever fried chicken vending machine, and it’s giving out free samples… if you can find it.
Launching on October 18, the vending machine will dispense the brand’s new Sweet Tokyo Hot & Crispy chicken.
The limited-time item features boneless chicken coated in teriyaki glaze and sesame seeds, giving fans in Australia a chance to try it with zero human interaction.
“Fans can look forward to the same freshly prepared KFC they would be served at a restaurant,” the chain told Yahoo. “The KFC Sweet Tokyo vending machine will be restocked at regular intervals, with freshly cooked chicken supplied directly by a local KFC restaurant.”
But there’s a catch. The machine’s location is secret. Fans will have to follow clues on social media to find the “secret spicy location,” which KFC says will be tucked away in “Sydney’s spiciest alleyway.” If they find it, though, they’ll get free boxes of the new flavor.
KFC adds to wild 2025 with fried chicken vending machine
The promotion is part of a larger campaign with heavy Japanese pop culture influences. A hero ad shot in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district by director Hiroshi Kikuchi tells a love story between crispy chicken and teriyaki sauce, complete with chaotic cuts, sesame seed kids, and high-energy visuals.
Beyond the vending machine giveaway, customers can order the Sweet Tokyo Box, which includes a Zinger burger, chips, potato and gravy, and a drink, or the Sweet Tokyo Fill Up with two chicken pieces, chips, potato and gravy, and a dinner roll.
It’s not clear if or when KFC will bring these vending machines across the globe and offer fried chicken fans everywhere a chance for some finger lickin’ good products. For now, it’ll be limited to Australia.
The vending machine is just the latest in a long line of wild KFC promotions. Earlier this year, the company turned gravy into ice cream with the release of its Gravy Gelato.
And, if you want to brush your teeth after, the chain unveiled fried chicken-flavored toothpaste.
If that wasn’t enough, KFC Canada even debuted a ‘Pickled Menu’ that came with a Pickle Pepsi. Now, wouldn’t those products be perfect for a KFC vending machine!
