WWE legend John Cena has explained why he gave Logan Paul one of his final wrestling matches, giving the imPaulsive host some big kudos too.

When Logan Paul first got involved with the world of professional wrestling, many critics assumed that it wouldn’t last long. However, the YouTuber has been very successful over the last few years.

As well as earning wins and championships inside the ring, Logan has earned plenty of plaudits outside of it, too. He earned numerous Rookie of the Year nominations, as well as most improved wrestler praise.

Yet, when he was named as one of John Cena’s opponents for his final few matches, critics were quick to ask why.

John Cena ‘respects’ Logan Paul in WWE

Well, after Cena defeated Logan at Clash in Paris on August 31, he gave ‘The Maverick’ another big shoutout and explained why he chose to work with him.

“I remember somebody giving me an opportunity in Chicago, Illinois. I stepped up and I wasn’t ready. And there’s a whole lot of people that could’ve faced Kurt Angle that night, but I was the one who had the stupid bravery to slap him in the face, and that’s how I started this journey, you know?” Cena told the Clash in Paris post-show.

“So I got a lot of respect for Logan Paul. I see, and I think the WWE Universe can agree. I see so much potential in him, and he’s just so good at this. And I will say this, there has never been somebody who has been the marquee in this business that hasn’t been borderline unhealthy obsessed.”

Cena continued that if people “don’t like” Logan then “that’s fine” too, but added: “I got to put some respect on that man.”

As noted, it isn’t the first time that Cena has praised Logan. He did it right before their match too, calling him “underrated” by fans.

“I think he gets a bad rap. He’s not an outsider, he belongs in WWE. I think his best days are still ahead of him, he’s got championships in his future,” Cena told a fan Q&A in Chicago.
