Grindr, the world’s largest LGBTQ dating app is testing a new Premium tier that will cost users as much as $500 a month.

It’s no secret that dating apps make a lot of money based on microtransactions, charging users for subscriptions, super likes, boosts, and other “pay-to-win” power-ups.

We’ve already seen apps like Tinder launch a $499 subscription with extra benefits and now, Grindr is unleashing its own version dubbed ‘Edge.’

According to Business Insider, this AI subscription tier has already been piloted in Australia and New Zealand, and now it’s making its way to the United States. So far, the pricing points vary, but they’re all rather expensive.

Grindr’s new AI subscription costs $500 every month

As part of the experiment, Grindr is rolling out variable pricing that changes by user. Weekly test subscriptions begin around $80, with some tiers climbing into the hundreds.

Some screenshots show the subscription costing $349.99 and $499.99, which would put a yearly subscription just pennies short of $6,000.

Edge bundles three core AI tools: Discover for tailored matches, Insights for compatibility signals before you message, and A-List to resurface past conversations. The plan also folds in every perk from Grindr Unlimited, including an ad-free experience.

Grindr defended the prices for the subscription with a representative explaining, “This early-stage pilot is part of our broader strategy to make Grindr smarter, faster, and drive more meaningful connections.”

With more and more people turning to AI chatbots to find connections, at least Grindr is trying to use AI to start legitimate human relationships, but the cost of using the tools may price some people out.

We’ll have to see exactly what kind of results the Edge tier gets to justify the price, or if it leaves users broken-hearted.
