Gervonta Davis’ coach admitted that he will “worry” for Tank’s “safety” in his upcoming fight with Jake Paul, calling it a “risky fight” for the world champion.
After losing to Tommy Fury back in 2023, Jake Paul has looked to add more fights against ‘real’ boxers to his record. He’s done so with wins over Ryan Bourland, Andre August, Mike Tyson, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
While there have been critiques about him fighting Tysona and Cesar Chavez Jr well outside of their primes, Jake has continued to target big names.
He stunned the boxing world on August 20, announcing that he’ll get into the ring with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. The YouTuber-turned-boxer will meet the WBA Lightweight champion on November 14 in an exhibition, but Tank’s camp are still ‘worried’ for their fighter’s safety.
Gervonta Davis coach admits “risky” worry for Jake Paul fight
Calvin Ford, Davis’s long-time coach, spoke to Fight Hype about the fight with Jake and admitted that it will be a “risky fight” for the world champion.
“I’ve got a serious fight coming up. Jake Paul and ‘Tank’ have been going at it for years, and I’ve got to worry about his safety,” Ford said.
“One thing I can say about Jake is… he is good at what he does, and he’s been doing it. That’s why he’s where he’s at. I’ll be honest, this is a risky fight. Anything can happen because I don’t know all the logistics. The gloves, the weight class. It’s a lot of stuff, I don’t know about yet, but my main thing is to keep him safe.”

As noted, the fight is scheduled as an exhibition, meaning that a winner won’t actually be announced.
There is the weight class issue too. Jake typically fights at around 200lbs, while Davis is down at 130lbs. A catchweight is the likeliest option, but as Ford admitted, they’ve got to figure it out.
