Panasonic has marked the 30th anniversary of Neon Genesis Evangelion in a way nobody saw coming, by turning the anime’s iconic mechs into power tools.
Instead of statues, sneakers, or another collector’s watch, the Japanese electronics giant is releasing a lineup of Evangelion-themed electric screwdrivers. Yes, Evangelion screwdrivers.
The collaboration introduces special editions of Panasonic’s rechargeable mini electric screwdriver, each one inspired by a different Eva unit. Every model features unit-specific colors, printed numbering on the end cap, and packaging styled after its respective mech.
Evangelion power tool collab is as bizarre as it is practical
Despite the anime coat of paint, each electronic screwdriver runs at 850 rpm and includes an LED light for dark spaces. Panasonic even claims a single full charge can tighten around 2,000 screws, which feels excessive unless you are personally rebuilding NERV headquarters.
The standard Evangelion edition is priced at 18,480 yen ($123 USD), while the premium Unit-01 special package, which includes a themed carry case and a Spear of Longinus attachment, will cost fans 21,780 yen, or approximately $145 USD.
This mecha-themed powertool collab is currently scheduled to release in Japan on February 2, 2026, and there is currently no news about an international release.
Either way, it is an undeniably bizarre collaboration, even by Evangelion’s famously unhinged merchandising standards.
However, there is something oddly fitting about an anime known for world-ending stakes being celebrated with a tool designed to quietly fix small, everyday problems.
