An elderly man in Japan was arrested after stealing a toilet from a warehouse and using it in his home.

According to FNN, the 76-year-old suspect allegedly stole a complete toilet set and its water tank from a warehouse under construction in Aichi Prefecture.

The outlet wrote that the stolen fixture was later found installed in his home.

At this point, however, it turned out he had been using it for roughly three months before investigators discovered it.

The elderly man was identified as a resident of Chiryu, a location that is about a 30-minute drive from Toyota City.

He brought the toilet home, installed it himself, and used it for his own purposes before police eventually came knocking.

When questioned, he simply said, “I have been using the toilet that I stole.”

According to SoraNews, Yotsumoto previously worked as a daiku, which means “carpenter.” The term itself broadly refers to residential construction and renovation work, which may explain how he was able to install it on his own.

There is, however, still one detail that remains unsolved. The water tank was also reported missing. But despite that being the case, Yotsumoto denied taking it and said he only stole the bowl.

“It is true that I stole the toilet set, but I did not steal anything else,” he explained.

The toilet may have been in use for three months, but as stolen property, it likely won’t be staying there much longer.

Though at the end of the day, it comes down to whether or not the owners would want it back after months of use.
