Dr Disrespect is laughing off backlash after a Highguard developer exposed his early preview event invite as having been fabricated.
After the show-closing reveal of Highguard at The Game Awards 2025, devs at Wildlight Entertainment went quiet. For weeks, they remained silent in the lead-up to the January 26, 2026 release date.
That silence was broken just days prior, as a batch of content creators and media members confirmed they’d played the F2P shooter early at a pre-release event. This early hands-on opportunity was strictly invite-only. We’d know, as Dexerto attended the event.
Among the influencers sharing their attendance was disgraced streaming personality Dr Disrespect. However, on the day of the game’s release, a developer shot the post down, confirming the ‘Doc’ had faked his invitation.
Dr Disrespect exposed for faking Highguard event invitation
Dr Disrespect shared an image of his ‘setup’ at an early Highguard preview event. Fit with a controller, headphones, a keyboard, a lanyard, and a badge, it appeared to the naked eye as though he had indeed rocked up to the LA session.
Controversy began swirling on January 25 shortly after Dr Disrespect’s post, however. Given the Rumble streamer’s checkered past, many expressed concern over the thought he’d be invited to an event of this kind.
Fellow content creator ‘Macro’ spoke up shortly after, stating Dr Disrespect was not there. “Everyone would’ve noticed [him] a mile away.”
Moments later, Highguard’s Creator Manager, Chin Pua, chimed in on X (formerly Twitter). “I can confirm Dr Disrespect was not invited to any Highguard event past or present, and the badge was not an official badge.”
Therefore, Dr Disrespect’s image was confirmed to be a fake. Other comparisons show misalignments with text on the badge. The original post has since been hit with a Community Note on X.
Dr Disrespect addresses fake Highguard event invite
After the Highguard dev spoke up, Dr Disrespect was asked about the situation during his own launch stream of the game. Laughing it off, he asked “How stupid are these f***ing guys?”
“Gottem’,” the 43-year-old cosplayer said.
“They’re so f***ing stupid, I love it. We’re so ahead of these brainwashed idiots online.”
