A DoorDash driver has been arrested on battery and product tampering charges after allegedly using pepper spray on a customer’s order and later telling police she only meant to hit a spider.

Police in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, said 29-year-old Kourtney Stevenson was identified through DoorDash logs after a couple reported burning sensations and vomiting shortly after eating their delivered Arby’s meal.

Doorbell footage reviewed by deputies showed the driver placing the food down, taking the required confirmation photo, and then spraying a substance towards the ground.

Per Evansville Courier & Press, Stevenson admitted to investigators that she used pepper spray during the delivery but insisted she was trying to hit a spider on the porch rather than contaminate the food.

Deputies stated that no spider was visible on the footage and noted that the temperatures that night were low enough to make outdoor spider activity unlikely.

Stevenson was arrested in McCracken County Kentucky and is facing charges including consumer product tampering resulting in harm, and battery resulting in Moderate injury. She is awaiting extradition back to Indiana.

In a statement to Evansville news media, DoorDash said it had “absolutely zero tolerance for this type of appalling behaviour.”

This incident follows one in November, when a New York DoorDash driver who went viral for posting a video of a customer lying exposed on his couch was arrested and charged with a felony.
