Drew Feltwell, the dad who had to hand over a baseball to an angry Philadelphia Phillies fan, has urged people to leave her alone as “the internet already messed her up pretty good.’’
On September 5, Drew Feltwell thought he’d made a dream come true for his son, Lincoln, after snagging a home run ball at a Philadelphia Phillies game for him. However, the dream quickly became a nightmare.
Feltwell and his son were confronted by a woman who demanded that they hand the ball over, claiming it was hers because it had bounced near her. The woman, who was quickly dubbed ‘Phillies Karen’ by social media users, eventually got the ball from Feltwell but became the centre of an online storm.
Despite the Feltwells getting to meet Phillies star Harrison Bader after the game, and getting some swag, the internet has tried to hunt down the woman in question.
Phillies fan urges people to leave angry woman alone
A few women have been falsely accused of being the so-called ‘Phillies Karen’ and have had to make social media statements about it.
Feltwell has also urged people to leave the woman alone. “Please don’t do anything to that lady,’’ Drew told USA Today on September 8.
“Leave it alone. You know, somebody knows her and can talk to her, that’s different. But God, I don’t want people breaking into their house and stuff like that. The internet already messed her up pretty good.’’
Feltwell is right, the internet has been pretty brutal towards the Phillies fan in question, and he just wanted her to “go away” at the time.
The Savanah Bananas, an independent baseball team, even mocked the incident during one of their games, using The Grinch in place of the unnamed woman.
“She’s going to wish she never went to that game now…,” one fan commented after that.
