The dad of a young Philadelphia Phillies fan who gave a home run baseball back to a ‘Karen’ has explained why he did so following their viral confrontation.
Going to a baseball game and getting a ball – be it a home run, a foul ball, or even a toss-up from a player – is a dream for so many fans, especially younger fans.
On September 5, Drew Feltwell thought he’d made that dream come true for his son, Lincoln; however, he was confronted by a fellow Phillies fan who wasn’t too pleased. The woman, who has been dubbed Phillies Karen on social media, confronted Feltwell and demanded that he hand the ball over to her as it had bounced near where she was sitting.
Feltwell, who had already put the ball in his son’s glove, handed the ball over. “That was ours,” the woman yelled at the dad, live on television.

The interaction has gone viral on social media over the last few days, with the dad and son getting plenty of love from the team and fellow fans.
They also appeared on NBC 10 Philadelphia to talk about the situation, with Drew explaining why he gave the ball back. “I decided to give her the ball, I apologized to you (Lincoln). It was the right thing, we just wanted her to go away,” he said.
“We were there to get a home run ball, so I thought I had accomplished this great thing, putting it in his glove meant a lot, and she was just so adamant and loud and yelling and persistent. I just didn’t want to deal with it anymore.”
Feltwell said that he didn’t want to do something that he’d “regret” either with the woman being so close to him and his family.
“That was the choice I made, hand her the ball back and tell her to go away,” he concluded.
Lincoln added that he “wasn’t very happy” that the woman got the ball back but believed she “was going to get it anyway.”
