Butterfinger is shaking up its classic ‘crispety, crunchety, peanut-buttery’ formula for the second time in a decade by introducing a brand-new flavor — marshmallow.

Butterfinger hasn’t changed much in the last ten years. The crunchy peanut butter and chocolate treat is a staple at grocery stores and concession stands in the US.

While other candy brands have branched out to introduce new flavor combos and even special collaborations with celebrities, Butterfinger has stoically remained unchanged… until now.

In April 2025, the crunchy candy bar company unveiled a new flavor for the first time in a decade: salted caramel. “Perfection takes time,” they joked in a celebratory tweet, referencing how long it had been since they tried something new.

Now, they’re taking a second leap of faith for another bold Butterfinger flavor, revealing an upcoming Marshmallow edition of the candy bar in September 2025.

Butterfinger combines soft & crunchy with Marshmallow flavor

Butterfinger announced the flavor in a post on September 2, telling fans the “peanut-buttery and marshmallowy bar is the newest Butterfinger flavor you won’t want to miss.”

The combo of soft marshmallow and crunchy peanut butter / chocolate is certainly surprising, and with Halloween right around the corner, fans are expecting this new candy bar in kids’ buckets just over a month from now.

“Just in time for camp fires and Halloween,” one user wrote on X.

“Okay, marshmallows and peanut butter are top tier, I bet marshmallows and butterfinger can reach that point!” another said.

Butterfinger was first founded in 1923 by Otto Schnering, the owner of the Curtiss Candy Company. In the 102 years since then, the classic candy bar has only released a handful of different variations, but has experimented with new products like Butterfinger ice cream bars, baking bits, and dessert toppers.

The candy company is just the latest food chain to introduce new offerings for fall after Krispy Kreme unveiled its special Harry Potter-themed donut collection to ring in spooky season.
