Asmongold is warning Twitch that someone might get shot if the Amazon-owned platform doesn’t do something about the rise of “nuisance streamers.”
With the rise of IRL streaming, problematic content has been a major issue plaguing sites like Kick, YouTube and Twitch.
While some creators, such as the notorious Johnny Somali, have been permabanned for their antics in countries overseas, including Japan, Israel and South Korea, others have received lighter punishments.
The most notable of these, according to Asmongold, is Nina Lin, who recently went viral after confessing to stealing from Target while live on Twitch. Lin had previously been briefly banned for sexually assaulting Disguised Toast and FaZe Silky’s assistant, Said, during a broadcast.
During a December stream, Asmongold called out Twitch for not doing enough to combat these types of broadcasts and urged the platform to shut them down for good before someone “gets shot.”
Asmongold calls on Twitch to take action against nuisance streamers
Speaking to his viewers, Asmongold called Nina a “low-functioning psychopath” and labeled her content as “anti-social, destructive, obnoxious behavior.”
“Why is this even on the platform at all? It’s crazy. Eventually, here’s the reality. This will have an end. One way or another. Eventually, they will f**k with the wrong person. By allowing something like this to be on the platform, you create a reward cycle that encourages more of the behavior to continue.”
The creator further warned that these types of broadcasts will only continue to get worse until it’s moderated out of existence.
“Eventually, what’s going to happen is you are going to have somebody get shot on stream. It’s going to happen. Somebody’s going to get beat up. If it’s the streamer, I guarantee you, nobody’s going to care. And when that happens, it’s completely on Twitch.”
Asmon continued, explaining that Twitch would be liable if something really bad happens during a stream and the blame would be completely theirs, because they “know this is happening.”
He proceeded to call out Twitch for letting these types of creators build a brand and make money on their platform, labeling the site’s moderation team “completely incompetent.”
Following this, Asmon took to X to make it clear that he believes Twitch should outright ban that type of content in general, but that he still supports IRL streaming as a category.
“Fact is that most successful long-term irl streamers are great,” he said in response to someone calling IRL streaming a “mistake.”
“Twitch just needs to ban nuisance streaming. Going to a public location, acting obnoxious to bait confrontation, then using it for content,” he argued. “Creates a profit incentive to harass people.”
Twitch has taken action against problematic metas before by letting users hide political content, ruling that using censor bars to cover body parts was a violation of their guidelines, and creating a new category for hot tub streams.
While many elements of “nuisance streaming,” such a stealing or breaking local laws, is already a violation of their guidelines, that hasn’t stopped streamers from partaking in that type of content anyway.
Only time will tell if Twitch takes further action, but for now, Asmongold is of the belief that if something drastic isn’t done, things will only escalate.
