Streaming star Asmongold has threatened to ban any Twitch viewers who donate 1000 subs to him amid controversy over a new limit with gifted subscriptions.
Donating gifted subs has long been one of the most popular ways for viewers to support their favorite streamers. They can donate single subscriptions to a specific viewer, or bundles to random members of the community.
For the longest time, the limit on gifted subs had been set to 100. It has, at times, been raised to 200, but controversy was stirred on November 26 when some streamers noticed that a 1000 sub limit had been introduced.
The 1000 sub option would cost any viewer around $5000, but came with a $1000 discount. Some streamers questioned the new feature, suggesting it would cause more drama for them through chargebacks and leaving fans out of pocket.
Asmongold wants proof fans can afford 1000 gifted Twitch subs
Asmongold, who now splits his time between Twitch and Kick, also weighed in, threatening to permanently ban any member of his community who dug deep into their pockets and dropped 1000 gifted subs.
“If you do that to me, you’re getting permanently banned, I’m going to say it right now. Anybody gifting me 1000 subs, you’re getting permanently f**king banned,” he said.
“I’m sorry but somebody does’t give you $5000 and not want something out of it. Unless I know that you are a Saudi Arabian prince, you do not do it. If you do it, the only way that your ban appeal can come in is if you send me your 1040 from last year, and if it’s not seven figures, you’re staying banned.”
The controversy limit has been quietly removed by Twitch after being live for a short time, with 200 subs being the maximum that you can gift at one time.
Emiru, who was the first streamer to receive 1000 gifted subs, noted at the time that it hadn’t been rolled out properly as the feature wasn’t working as intended with the gifted subs leaderboard.
