Streaming star Asmongold has hit out at Twitch for having gambling adverts popping up during streams, despite banning a wide range of gambling sites.
Gambling content has long been a hot topic on Twitch, with many streamers long calling for a ban on it as other creators dedicated themselves to slots, Counter-Strike skin gambling, and more. Twitch eventually struck down a ban on gambling content back in 2022, making it a bannable offence for anyone to stream slots and other games from unregulated websites.
Sports betting, and casino games like Poker and Blackjack have remained unbanned, but conversations around gambling content were sparked again when Counter-Strike 2’s StarLadder Budapest Major was being sponsored by Rollbit – one of the banned sponsors.
Twitch clarified that the games could be streamed, but mentions of Rollbit had to be limited to physical branding.
Asmongold says gambling is “here to stay”
Since then, fantasy sports adverts have popped up on Twitch, prompting Asmongold to take swipes at the platform and creators who hit out at gambling content.
“Right now, if you’re streaming on Twitch and you’re running ads, you are supporting gambling, period,” he said. “I don’t want to hear anymore or anybody ever virtue signal about gambling again. It’s over. Gambling has won. No more high roads. Why are we going to pretend we’re fighting gambling when we’re losing?
“I never want to hear anybody streaming on Twitch, ever again, talking about how bad gambling is, or complaining about gambling. Saying Rainbet or Stake are bad. Uh-huh, it’s over. It’s done. Gambling is here, and it’s here to stay.”
As noted, sports betting and fantasy sports are allowed on Twitch, which is what these in-stream adverts have been promoting.
The former OTK member hasn’t even dedicated himself to gambling like some other streamers. Yet, he has made Kick his home, which is backed by Stake, which is also one of the sites banned by Twitch.
