Apple has unveiled the AirPods Pro 3, introducing new audio features, longer battery life, and a redesigned charging case ahead of their September 20 release for $249.

The third-generation AirPods Pro mark the biggest update to Apple’s premium earbuds since the Pro line first launched in 2019. The standout addition is Adaptive Audio, which automatically blends Transparency and Active Noise Cancellation in real time, adjusting to a user’s environment for smoother transitions between quiet and loud spaces.

Apple confirmed that AirPods Pro 3 will be available through its online store and retail outlets worldwide starting September 20.

AirPods now feature a Heart Rate sensor

While the new AirPods follow the same design as the last two iterations, Apple has added a new Heart Rate sensor to the popular earbuds.

According to Apple, the AirPods Pro 3 “Shine invisible infrared light pulsed at 256 times per second to measure light absorption in blood flow” to figure out the heart rate of those wearing them.

AirPods Pro 3 are driven by Apple’s updated H2 chip, which improves sound processing, spatial audio, and efficiency. Apple says the new acoustic driver and amplifier deliver deeper bass and clearer mids and highs, enhancing overall listening quality.

Battery life has been extended to eight hours of playback on a single charge, compared to six hours on the previous model. With the case, total listening time reaches up to 36 hours. The charging case now supports USB-C, includes Precision Finding with the Find My app, and offers upgraded dust resistance.

The AirPods Pro 3 have been in the works for years, as the last generation of the earbuds was released way back in 2022. Since then, rumors have been circulating about a new sensor – and now we know what it is.
