Angry Orchard is marking Valentine’s Day with a new promotion aimed at people dealing with leftover belongings from past relationships.
The hard cider brand has launched its “Ex-Change” program, which allows participants to mail in items abandoned by former partners in return for money that can be used toward a new case of cider.
Beginning February 2, customers can register through the campaign site to receive a free shipping kit that includes packaging materials and a prepaid label to send items to the brand’s cider house.
How Angry Orchard’s Ex-Change program works
Through the promotion, drinkers ship their exes’ belongings to the Angry Orchard Hard Cider Cider House, where the packages are received, sorted, and prepared for donation. Once the items arrive, participants are sent cash to apply toward a fresh case of Angry Orchard cider.
Examples listed in the campaign include clothing, vinyl records, posters, and other household items that may have been left behind after a breakup.
“Valentine’s Day has a way of stirring up plenty of frustrations, and at Angry Orchard, we love helping our drinkers find the fun in all of it,” said Matt Withington, senior director of marketing at the brand. “The Ex-Change program lets our fans turn their breakup baggage into something they actually want: a fridge stocked with cider.”
Angry Orchard said all items submitted through the program will be donated after being processed.
The company describes itself as one of the largest cider brands in the United States, producing a range of styles made with real apples and operating a 60-acre orchard in New York’s Hudson Valley where small-batch experimentation and on-site experiences are offered.
Other Valentine’s Day promos include McDonald’s free McNugget Caviar kits, Denny’s giving away free ‘Rock N Roll’ inspired weddings, and Dunkin’s holiday drink menu with a “toxic ex” inspired espresso.
