WWE fans are laying the smackdown on AI after a brutal mistake depicted Dominik Mysterio as an AEW champion on live TV.

As AI continues to influence different forms of media, the need to fact-check and ensure mistakes aren’t made becomes increasingly important.

It doesn’t seem like that double check happened during AAA’s debut on Fox in Latin America when artificial intelligence was used for a promo package.

A video segment about Dominik Mysterio contained animated sequences of the wrestler with both the WWE‘s Intercontinental and AAA’s Mega Championship tos, but one frame has the internet talking.

Dirty Dom is All Elite thanks to AI botch

In the video package, Dom is shown wearing a belt with the AEW logo on it, a mistake seemingly caused by AI altering the real video.

The mix-up happens while Mysterio discusses being the new AAA champ. It’s not clear if a prompt impacted the animation or if the “AEW” logo was supposed to say “new” instead during that frame.

Still, a rather funny look given that AEW is WWE’s biggest competitor. Last year, WWE counterprogrammed AEW by scheduling events on the same day as its rival’s biggest shows – something that wrestling fans, and even wrestlers, called out.

WWE isn’t the only company to be criticized for its use of AI. Lionsgate, the movie behind John Wick and The Hunger Games, came under fire after its vice-chairman said he wants to use AI to make existing films “more kid-friendly or animated.”

As we’ve seen over the years, AI isn’t perfect and is very prone to mistakes. In October, a student was swarmed by armed police after AI security mistook his bag of Doritos for a weapon.

In another weird situation, an AI-generated police report caught flak for claiming an officer had “transformed into a frog.”
