Rap star A$AP Rocky has hit out at Reddit moderators for deleting his posts, as he has tried to market his new album.
Over the years, plenty of musicians have taken to social media to start marketing their new releases. This has been most obvious on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and others, but there have been other examples of stretching further afield.
In the case of A$AP Rocky, he has been marketing his new album – Don’t Be Dumb – in those normal ways. However, he has also taken to Reddit to try and connect with fans on subreddits such as HipHopHeads.
Yet, the ‘Long Live A$AP’ rapper has run into problems with moderators on Reddit, who have taken to deleting his posts.
A$AP Rocky’s Reddit posts deleted
“MODS STOP DELETING MY COMMENTS,” the rapper posted on r/HipHopHeads following a series of deleted posts. “ARTISTS HAVE TO CHECK IN WITH MODS TO PUSH THEY MUSIC 4 FANS? DON’T BE DUMB.”
Some fans poked fun at the mods for not allowing Reddit’s self-promotion rules to slide, given that the actual artist was posting on the subreddit. “DONT BE DUMB I FOLLOW THE RULES,” A$AP also commented.
He noted that he had also been trying to upload videos, but they were taken down one second after being posted. “IT WAS UP FOR 1 SECOND. AUTO TAKEDOWN,” he added.
Some commenters pointed that, typically, record labels and PR companies will co-ordinate with Reddit moderators about self-promotion posts. However, that appears to have not been the case here.
The ASAPRocky account has been active for some time on Reddit too, it hasn’t just popped up out of the blue.
He has previously praised other artists and teased new music with posts on there. Yet, this time, he ran into the strong arm of Reddit moderation.
The last time users rebelled against mods was when r/Art was sent into lock for similar self-promotion from an artist.
