An 81-year-old grandma started playing Minecraft on YouTube to help pay for her grandson’s cancer treatment, and he’s now cancer-free.

In 2024, Sue Jacquot became a YouTuber after she was introduced to Minecraft and decided to use her platform to help her grandson in his time of need.

Her channel, Gramma Crackers, has amassed over 150,000 followers since she began her journey playing through Minecraft with her first-ever video receiving a whopping 564K views.

Her videos contained a link to her grandson Jack Self’s GoFundMe, who had been diagnosed with Sarcoma Cancer and the donations just kept on coming with each upload.

According to Local12, Jack bonded with his grandma over Minecraft in the hospital, impressing the rest of the family with her ability to figure out the game.

“I was never really curious about it, but when you have grandkids who want to interact with you, you do it,” she said.

Months later, she started the channel and had grown her channel to 100,000 followers in just a month.

Her other grandson, Austin, explained that thanks to his grandmother’s videos, donations to Jack’s GoFundMe exploded.

“It was surreal,” he said. “There were donations from a dollar all the way up to $5,000.”

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe has hit $35,000, and that’s not counting Jacquot’s YouTube revenue, which also contributed to Jack’s treatment. In part, because the gaming community embraced her and sent numerous words of encouragement.

“It’s the most incredible thing,” Jacquot beamed.

Elderly folks gaming has become a hot trend as of late. In December of 2025, a 92-year-old woman won a Tekken 8 tournament held specifically for senior citizens.

Another YouTuber, Skyrim Grandma, became one of YouTube’s biggest Elder Scrolls creators, though the wait for the next installment became so long she eventually retired from making videos about the subject.
