A 15-year-old dog has been reunited with her owner after more than a decade apart in Doral, Florida, following a routine intake scan at Miami-Dade Animal Services.
The reunion was revealed in a Facebook post shared on Tuesday, Jan. 20, where the department confirmed that the dog, named Buttercup, was returned home thanks to information stored on her microchip.
“Last week, Buttercup was reunited with her owner after being missing for more than 10 years,” the statement read alongside photos of the dog and her owner. “A decade apart, and thanks to a simple scan, this sweet girl finally made her way home. Moments like this remind us why microchipping matters.”

Miami-Dade Animal Services later added another reminder in the post, writing, “A microchip is only as good as the information attached to it. Keeping your contact details updated can be the difference between a lost pet staying lost and a happy reunion like Buttercup’s.”
According to WSVN, Buttercup was found on Jan. 12 before being brought into the shelter system.
The outlet also reported that the owner had two dogs go missing years earlier and believed Buttercup had died before learning she had been located and identified.
This news comes just days after it was reported that a cat traveled over 155 miles to its home in France after getting lost in Spain back in August 2025.
