A 12-year-old was pulled over by police in North Carolina as he decided to drive himself to school with a “fictitious license plate” after he missed the bus.
Relying on public transport when you’re on your way to school, work, or to just meet friends can be a nightmare. One delayed train or bus can send your whole schedule out of whack, prompting you to be late or have to cancel plans altogether.
Well, in the case of one 12-year-old in Monroe, North Carolina, he decided he was going to drive himself to school after he missed the bus to get there.
The 12-year-old, who can’t be named, was stopped by the Monroe Police Department due to “suspicious behavior,” as well as the car having a “fictitious license plate” on it. Obviously, when they stopped to chat, they found he wasn’t of age to be driving.
12-year-old found driving car to school
“During the course of the investigation, the officer determined the driver was a 12-year-old child. The child stated he missed his school bus and made the decision to drive himself to school,” the police department posted on Facebook.
“The School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to the school was contacted and responded to assist. The SRO safely transported the child to school without further incident. The vehicle was secured, and the child was released to the appropriate school authorities.”
The police added that it “serves as an important reminder” for parents and guardians to keep their car keys away from children. “Allowing an unlicensed juvenile to operate a motor vehicle creates significant safety risks to the child and the public,” they continued.
He isn’t the youngest child to be picked up for driving underage recently, either. Back in December, three children aged 8, 11, and 12 were chased by police after reaching speeds of up to 80 mph.
The car, which was being driven by the 11-year-old, ended up crashing into a men’s recovery home in Ohio. “You suck at driving,” the police told the kids after a foot chase.
